St. Clair, Le Lavandou and surrounding areas

The immediate environment is very quiet, but there are a few restaurants, take-aways and shops within easy walking distance. Le Lavandou itself is only 20-30 minutes away by foot, and offers all the advantages of a small city. A car, therefore, is not indispensable. Hyeres (with its railway station and airport) is 15m away by car. Toulon is the nearest large city, approximately 30 mins. away by car. There is a bus service connecting St Clair to these places.

St. Clair has a beautiful sandy beach only a few minutes away from the flat by foot, large areas of which are completely free and impeccably maintained by the municipality. But for those who prefer to rent their sun beds and parasols there are a few excellent commercial establishments.

The coastline is varied, alternating sandy bays with rocks and "calanques". A nice feature is the "sentier du littoral", a path that follows the coast for many miles.  There is also an excellent cycling path running all the way from Bormes-les-Mimosas to the bay of Cavaliere.

St. Clair overlooks the Cap Benat and two of the "Iles d'Or", Port-Cros (a marine natural reserve) and Le Levant, which can be visited by boat (departing from Le Lavandou).

The interior is hilly with vast, beautiful forests, ideal for walks and picnics.

There are a few web sites interesting for those who like walking (see Links):

The old village of Bormes-les-Mimosas, perched on the hills, is very close and particularly attractive, but there are also many other interesting places in the region.
